NFL Week 4 games preview: New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills headlines packed gameweek

New York Jets v New England Patriots

Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers - Friday 1:20AM - Sky Sports

This is Green Bay's second Thursday night game of the NFL season. They played on the opening night of the season, winning at the Chicago Bears in Soldier Field. That was a gritty 10-3 victory and their three wins have all been based on solid defense. They have allowed an average of just 11.7 points per game. On the flip side, their offense is ranked 28th in the league and star man Aaron Rodgers is struggling.

The Eagles have a banged up offense with Desean Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey both missing out in Week 3 and they are doubtful to return on Thursday. Having said that, the Eagles have only lost their two games by a combined seven points and they should have enough to keep it tight here. Home advantage usually pays dividends on Thursday night games and for that, reason I'm backing the Packers and their defense to pull through by the slimmest of margins.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills - Sunday 6PM - Sky Sports

This is undoubtedly the game of the weekend with two undefeated teams facing off at New Era Field. This is the first time since 2011 that the Bills have started 3-0 and they have shown promising signs at this early stage of the season. It must be pointed out that their opposition in the first three weeks haven't set the world alight. They beat New York rivals the Jets and Giants in the first two weeks before winning at home to the Bengals last week. Bill Belichick's New England Patriots are a completely different proposition to that lackluster opposition.

I predicted before the start of the season that the Patriots would have a 7-0 record heading into their game with the Cleveland Browns in October and I'm sticking to that prediction. On current form they will likely stretch that to 8-0 against the Browns. Of course, if the Bills can pull off an upset they will be considered as legitimate AFC contenders but I'm backing the Pats to cover the 7-point spread and maintain their perfect start to the season.

Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints - Monday 1:20AM - Sky Sports

Another undefeated team in the Dallas Cowboys head to New Orleans on Sunday night aiming to cement their status as Super Bowl contenders. They have started very well and they have one of the best quarterback/running back combos in the league with Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot. Prescott has been brilliant in the first three games, throwing for 920 yards, 9 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. They're not too bad on the defensive side of things either. They're only allowing an average of 14.7 points per game with Jaylon Smith and DeMarcus Lawrence leading the defense.

All of that means that Sean Payton and his backup QB Teddy Bridgewater will have to put in their best performance of the season if they are to have any chance of heading into Week 5 with a 3-1 record. Alvin Kamara will have to shoulder the weight of this offense for the coming weeks, but the rush offense won't be enough to beat the Cowboys D alone. It could be tight, but Dallas in the moneyline betting is the pick for me.
