He's been away from wrestling for over five years now, and CM Punk has shown little desire to return to the squared circle at all.

After what he believed was mistreatment from WWE, Punk walked out on the company after the 2014 Royal Rumble, and he's done a lot since then outside of a wrestling ring.

Punk decided to venture into the world of Mixed Martial Arts, and made his UFC debut in in 2016 - a losing effort to Mickey Gall in just over two minutes.

It's unlikely that the Chicago native will ever step back into the Octagon after being defeated and humiliated in-front of his home-town crowd by Mike Jackson last year.

Instead, Punk has decided to step inside the commentary booth for Cage Fury Fighting Championships, and he's been doing that since December 2018.

Punk has always been known to be a decent hand on the microphone, which may be the reason as to why his agent reportedly threw Punk's hat into the ring for a potential analysis role in WWE last month.

Many took that with a pinch of salt at the time, but new information that came out earlier today makes a return to WWE programming for Punk a bit more likely.

Mike Johnson of PW Insider reports that Punk met with FOX officials at their studios in Los Angeles this week, which will be the location of a brand-new show named 'WWE Backstage' on Tuesday nights, starting on November 5.

It will be an hour-long broadcast hosted by Renee Young and Booker T, with a 'rotating cast of current and former WWE stars' - and FOX had Punk in to test some 'on-screen material'.

This is the biggest sign yet that Punk will return to WWE in some capacity, but he wouldn't actually be contracted to the company - nor does it mean he's returning to the ring.

Many thought Punk would show up in AEW, in-fact Cody Rhodes texted him an offer months ago, but it's thought that there's been no more talks between the two parties.

Who knows - Punk appearing on WWE programming may give him the fire back in his belly to want to return to the business...
