Bayern Munich were looking for their fifth win of the season when they travelled to bottom-placed Paderborn on Saturday.

As expected, the Bundesliga leaders dominated much of the first half and Niko Kovac must’ve been disappointed his side weren’t more than 1-0 ahead at the break.

Serge Gnabry gave Bayern the lead inside 15 minutes, though it was one of only two shots on target the visitors registered from ten attempts.

They certainly created enough chances to extend their lead - one of which will haunt Robert Lewandowski for a long, long time.

The Polish striker already has nine goals in six appearances this season, but he so easily could’ve hit double digits just six minutes into the match at the Benteler Arena.

Following an impressive run and cross from Gnabry down the right wing, Lewandowski was presented with an open goal.

Instead of finishing the easiest of chances from barely 12 yards out in the centre of the penalty area, he somehow side-footed the ball wide of the post.

Next time you fluff your lines in front of an empty net, remember it can even happen to the deadliest strikers on the planet.

Take a look at Lewandowski’s horrendous blunder in the video below…

How on earth did he miss that?

Fortunately for the 31-year-old, Philippe Coutinho put Bayern up 2-0 to grab his second goal for his new club.

Kovac’s men might've thought they then would run away with the three points, Paderborn had other ideas.

Kai Proger pulled one back for the hosts shortly before the hour mark to give Bayern something to think about for the remaining 20 minutes.

Lewandowski redeemed himself to make it 3-1 in the 80th minute, though even then Paderborn weren’t done.

Jamilu Collins scored four minutes later to set up a very nervy ending, but Bayern held on to secure a 3-2 win.
