Plenty of people had pencilled in Real Madrid's trip to Atletico Madrid on Saturday night as the likely match of the weekend but it struggled to live up to the hype.Diego Costa and Joao Felix spearheaded Atleti's attack, while Real fielded a front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard, however the game ended 0-0.There were lots of fierce battles out on the pitch, from Costa's tussles with Real captain Sergio Ramos to Benzema bringing a world-class save out of the impressive Jan Oblak. That said, the contest between Kieran Trippier and Hazard was of particular interest seeing as the pair had faced off with each other for years in the Premier League prior to this season.Usually, Hazard's trickery is too much for Trippier to handle, but in both players' first Madrid derby, it was actually the Englishman who out-shined the Belgian.

Trippier and Hazard swap London for Madrid

Trippier made a surprising £20 million switch to Atletico this summer after four seasons at Tottenham, in which he also established himself as an England international.

Meanwhile, Hazard joined Real in a huge €100 million deal having solidified himself as a Chelsea legend, scoring 110 goals and winning several trophies in seven years with the Blues.

Trippier v Hazard in Madrid derby

With Trippier at right-back and Hazard on the left-wing, the ex-Premier League stars were directly up against one another at the Wanda Metropolitano - and it's Trippier who came out on top.

Per Squawka, the 29-year-old completed more take-ons in the first-half, and it's a statistic that held true for the entire game.

Trippier boasted an 86% passing accuracy rate, compared to 77% for Hazard, and he had 78 touches of the ball during the match, 24 more than the Belgium skipper.

Despite Hazard's unquestionable talent, he didn't produce a single shot of any kind whilst up against Trippier and he was eventually substituted off for James Rodriguez in the 77th-minute.

Fans have questioned the 28-year-old's physique since moving to Los Blancos, while under-pressure manager Zinedine Zidane is desperate for him to start performing at his best.

So, Trippier continues to show promise as Atleti's first English player in 95 years, whereas Hazard is still yet to score or assist a goal in his four Real Madrid appearances so far.
