It's no secret that Paul Pogba wanted to leave Manchester United this summer.

The French midfielder made his feelings known while in Japan.

"After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well... I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else," he said, per AS.

"I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else."

However, Pogba did not get what he wanted.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Man United viewed him as too valuable and did not want to get rid of him.

Pogba has since had a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign.

He's been suffering with injury in the past few weeks and has made just five appearances so far this term.

His struggles, combined with Man United's poor form, has led to reports claiming that Pogba is now 'more desperate than ever' to leave the club.

Those claims have now been echoed by Italian media outlet Tuttosport, who claim that Pogba is only willing to stay at the club if they give him an eye-watering contract worth €600,000-per-week.

As unlikely as it seems, if United agree to the deal then Pogba would become the highest-paid player in the Premier League and would even receive a wage greater than what Cristiano Ronaldo gets at Juventus.

United will have another fight to keep Pogba in January but one man that wants him to stay in England is Juan Mata.

“Paul is a very important player for us," he told the Times, per Goal.

“He has fantastic qualities: physically, his vision’s very good, his passing’s very good.

“He’s a complete midfielder. He’s got many things around him, social media life, but when you’re face to face with him, he’s very humble, a very nice guy, he has a good heart. I like him.”
