Jamie Vardy is a Premier League cult hero. He was the key man during Leicester City's title-winning season in 2015/16, as the Foxes shocked the footballing world.During that campaign, he also set a record of his own by becoming the first player to score in 11 consecutive league matches. Not bad. Although Leicester haven't reached those lofty heights in the years since, Vardy has continued to score goals and he's done it consistently too.  So far this season, the striker has bagged five goals in seven games and with two in Sunday's fixture against Newcastle, he's now netted 85 Premier League goals in his career. 

Not a bad effort for an English striker who was playing for Fleetwood Town in the Conference Premiership (the fifth division) just seven years ago. 

Vardy's goal tally also means he's now bested an all-time Premier League legend. With 85, he's now scored one more than a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. 

The Manchester United star netted 84 times in 196 matches - Vardy has hit more in just 183. 

Of course, Ronaldo did spend much of his time at Old Trafford playing on the wing, rather than upfront. He was also much younger than the Leicester forward while he was playing in England. 

But for Vardy to score more than one of the greatest players of all-time is certainly an achievement and he's far from done yet. In fact, his goals could inspire Leicester to success this season.  

The Foxes 5-0 win against Newcastle at the weekend means they are now third in the table, just two points behind Manchester City and seven behind league leaders Liverpool. 

Although the title seems out of reach, there's a real chance that Leicester could qualify for the Europa League - or even the Champions League if the teams around them continue to drop points.  

If they do, you can guarantee Vardy will have a big part to play.
