AC Milan are one of the biggest teams in Europe, but they've had quite a fall from grace over the last decade or so.

Since winning the Champions League final in 2007 and Serie A in 2011, the Rossoneri have slipped down the pecking order, both in Italy and Europe.

2014 saw Milan finish eighth domestically and a 10th place finish followed the season after.

After finishing sixth and seventh in more recent campaigns, 2018/19 saw a bit of improvement, with Gennaro Gattuso's side coming fifth in Serie A.

That wasn't enough to keep the Milan legend in charge at the club as he failed in his objective of qualifying for the Champions League and resigned in May.

Marco Giampaolo has replaced Gattuso in the dugout, but he's made a terrible start to life at the San Siro.

In fact, the Rossoneri have made their worst start to a season in 81 years. They have won two of their first six games while losing the other four for the first time since 1938-39.

Milan currently sit 16th in the table and there are plenty of unhappy fans after Sunday's humiliating 3-1 defeat at home to Fiorentina.

Despite only taking over a few months ago, Giampaolo's job is already in danger and reports from Italy suggest the club are turning to a legend to dig them out of this hole.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, per Football Italia, Milan have been in contact with Andriy Shevchenko.

The report suggests Giampaolo has one more game to save his job. If he fails, he will be replaced by the former Ukraine striker, who's currently in charge of his national side.

Shevchenko is well-loved in Milan, having spent eight years of his career at the San Siro. During that time, he scored 175 goals in 322 appearances.

If he does return to the club as a manager, there's no doubt that excitement around Milan would return after what's been a dreadful start to the campaign.
