Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to sell Romelu Lukaku in the summer put more pressure on Marcus Rashford to score goals for Manchester United.Solskjaer was content to offload Lukaku, leaving himself with Rashford, Anthony Martial and teenager Mason Greenwood as his only options upfront.Rashford impressed in pre-season - scoring three goals - and then began the 2019/20 campaign with a bang, netting twice in a 4-0 victory over Chelsea on the opening weekend.Since then, however, Rashford has only managed to score one goal for United - and that was a penalty against Leicester City.He struggled to make an impact during Monday night’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal and his recent performances have disappointed fans.

United supporters on social media were particularly critical of Rashford’s display against the Gunners.

And they’ve been reacting to a video showing former Arsenal striker Ian Wright analysing the England’s international’s latest performance.

Wright, who was one of the best English strikers of his generation, picked out numerous examples where Rashford wasn’t reacting or moving like a proper No. 9 should.

“For me here, he’s got to do more,” Wright said. “We’re watching him walk into the box and he’s just being engaged by the centre-half. He’s got to do something to lose him somewhere along the way.”

“Here… you’ve got to gamble if the ball’s coming to you.”

“He does very well here but then, get it into him. He tried a bit of skill - I don’t know what he’s doing - and in the end he gives it away.”

“There seems to be something not quite right, not clicking with him.”

“He could have gone either way here. Make a move, to the back of him so you can move him, or to the front of him. There’s only one place that ball can go.”

“At not stage did he look confident enough to get on the end of it and finish it.”

Damning stuff.

Rashford must prove that he’s better than this. The 21-year-old is clearly a hugely talented forward, but is he really an out-and-out goalscorer?

His tally of 48 goals in 178 games (less than one in three) must improve if he’s to retain that No. 10 shirt at Old Trafford.

“Man this is just awful,” wrote one fan after watching the video.

Another tweeted: “An experienced tap in merchant would bang loads of goals in this team.”

Another said: “He’s not going through a damn spell!!! He’s been like this for what 2 plus years now.”

And this supporter went in even harder, comparing Rashford to Gabby Agbonlahor: “5 years in the first team and ain’t improving at all! Rashbonlahor!!”
