Mesut Ozil not named in Arsenal's squad for Europa League clash vs Standard Liege

Arsenal FC v Nottingham Forrest - Carabao Cup Third Round

Mesut Ozil isn’t even on the bench for Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Standard Liege.

The German has failed to make the squad on numerous occasions this season but was fully expected to be included in Thursday’s match.

Ozil has only featured in two matches all season. He started in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Watford and played in his side’s 5-0 victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

And despite Emery making numerous changes for the clash against Belgian opposition, Ozil hasn’t even made the squad.

And he’s not injured.

What is going on?

It was just a few years ago that Ozil was considered one of the best playmakers in world football.

Now he can’t even make a matchday squad for a Europa League game.

According to Football.London: "Arsenal say Ozil continues to train to the level required of him and there has been no falling out with Emery. However, Arsenal have made a decision to focus minutes in this competition on youngsters."

So where will Ozil get his minutes?

Let's face it, his Arsenal career is surely coming to an end whether that's in January or next summer.

But there's clearly no space for him in Emery's plans at the Emirates right now.
