UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping left fans of his popular podcast retching when he took out his own eyeball during filming.Yes, you did read that right. The former UFC middleweight champion defied the advice of some of the world’s leading professionals by continuing to fight despite completely detaching the retina in his right eye. After receiving a brutal head kick by Victor Belford in 2013, ‘The Count’ began to experience severe pain and was forced to undergo multiple extensive and painful surgeries in order to rectify the issue. The 40-year-old was chatting on his podcast ‘Believe You Me’ about why he always wore sunglasses and opted to demonstrate to his fans exactly why.

He then popped out the fake eyeball and said: “That’s why I used to wear f***ing sunglasses, baby boy!”

Maybe just a verbal demonstration would have been enough, Michael...

Despite that brutal injury, the Manchester-born fighter still went on to achieve legendary status inside the Octagon as he dethroned title holder Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 and also overcame Anderson Silva on home turf.

Earlier this year, he opened up to MMA Junkie about his eye injury, revealing: “My vision (in my right eye) was pretty much non-existent since 2013.

“I was just about able to scrape past the medicals. It was definitely touch and go. I was always terrified of doing a full training camp, then being turned away by the commission doctor.

“It was difficult. To pass the medical test, you’ve got to have 20-200 vision, which is classed as clinically blind anyway, so it’s not very good, it’s not a very hard mark to pass. Some days I could, some days I couldn’t. But fortunately, I was just able to scrape by.”
