WrestleMania may still be months away, but there's no harm in booking matches in advance in WWE, especially when they could be as big as Randy Orton vs The Rock.

Randy Orton has challenged The Rock to a match at WrestleMania 36 next year in Tampa Bay over Twitter ahead of tonight's Friday Night SmackDown on Fox.

Tonight's SmackDown will be the blue brand's debut on the Fox Network, and it will be a special 20th anniversary show which includes some great matches and legends from the past making appearances.

One legend returning to WWE tonight is The Rock, and while it hasn't been confirmed exactly what The Great One will be doing on tonight's show, The Viper wants to give him a possible discussion topic.

Orton said in his tweet: "The Rock, I see you will be at #SmackdownOnFox this Friday.

"How about you and I have a discussion about who’s the greatest third generation of all time and we answer that question April 5 in Tampa at WrestleMania 36.

"A viper's sense of smell is unmatched. I smell what you’re cooking."

The People's Champion is yet to respond to The Viper's WrestleMania challenge, so we may have to tune in to SmackDown tonight on Fox to see if he issues his reply on the show.

The Rock and Orton have never been featured in a one-on-one match against each other in the middle of the ring, so WrestleMania 36 would be creating history if this clash is booked.

That itself, with the magnitude of the names involved, should be more than enough for WWE to book this match.

Obviously, the match hangs in the balance right now due to The Great One's busy schedule, but many WWE fans around the world will be keeping their fingers crossed that he's free to compete on April 5 next year.

SmackDown's debut on Fox tonight will feature many other legends besides The Rock tonight, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Goldberg, Kurt Angle, Lita, Mick Foley, Booker T, Trish Stratus, Jerry 'The King' Lawler, Mark Henry, and Sting.

It will also feature a WWE Championship match between Kofi Kingston and Brock Lesnar, as well as a Ladder match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon where the loser must leave WWE.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch will also team up in a tag team match against Bayley and Sasha Banks, and Roman Reigns will take on Erick Rowan.
