Several legends from WWE's past are expected to be present for SmackDown's debut on Fox Sports tonight in Los Angeles, but one superstar is unlikely to be there, John Cena.

John Cena commented on Friday Night SmackDown on his Twitter account, the debut show of the blue brand on Fox.

Tonight's SmackDown will be a 20th anniversary show, and it will feature some exciting matches as well as appearances from WWE legends.

The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Goldberg, Kurt Angle, Lita, Mick Foley, Booker T, Trish Stratus, Jerry 'The King' Lawler, Mark Henry, and Sting have all been advertised for the show.

However, it looks like Cena won't be making an appearance on SmackDown tonight.

He said in his tweet: "Good luck to my WWE family for the 1st episode of SmackDown on FOX.

"I’ve learned a lot about family here at Fast9 and while I’ll be enjoying from afar, I’m glad Fast And Furious family icon The Rock gets to FINALLY return home to electrify!"

Looks like the 16-time world champion will be watching, but not attending tonight's Friday Night SmackDown debut on Fox.

Cena's last appearance for WWE when he returned for one night only for the company's Raw Reunion special, having a rap battle with The Usos.

His last match for WWE was back in January this year when he faced Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, and Drew McIntyre in a Universal title number one contendership match, to which he lost to Balor.

Due to his commitments outside of WWE and his part-time status with the company, it's currently unclear as to when Cena will return to the ring for another match.

Many fans thought he would be back tonight for SmackDown's 20th anniversary show on Fox since he played a big part in the show's success during the 2000s.

Fans will just have to wait a little bit longer to see The Leader of the Cenation back in a WWE ring.
