This weekend is the final instalment of exciting domestic football action before yet another international break.

Sadly, this will not be the final two-week sabbatical from club football this year, with another break for international duty scheduled for November.

But once that fortnight has passed, we won't be parting ways with our beloved domestic action until March 2020.

So with another international break on the horizon, it's time to have a little look at which players are making a name for themselves in 2019/20.

The world's two greatest players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, have had their seasons disrupted by injury, as has Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.

As such, in WhoScored's highest-rated XI of the 2019/20 season so far, there are a few unexpected names.

Leicester flop Islam Slimani leads the line, while former Manchester City left-back Aleksandr Kolarov makes the cut after his performances with AS Roma.

And remember Luis Alberto Liverpool fans? Well, it seems he's also thriving in the Italian capital with Lazio.

Below, we've provided WhoScored's full XI.

THE BEST XI OF THE SEASON SO FAR BASED ON STATS

GK - Salvatore Sirigu (Torino)

RB - Ricardo Pereira (Leicester)

CB - Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

As for Slimani, he's scored four times and assisted the same amount in just five Ligue 1 games for Monaco.

Man City are the most represented club in the XI with three, with current Premier League leaders Liverpool the second most with two.
