Just when it looked like Liverpool were about to drop points in the Premier League for the first time this season, referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the penalty spot.Sadio Mane was brought down by Marc Albrighton inside the box and, following a VAR review, James Milner stepped up and converted from 12 yards.Milner’s winner came 15 minutes after James Maddison’s equaliser had cancelled out Mane’s first-half opener and ensured that Liverpool now have 24 Premier League points out of a possible 24.Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won 17 straight games in the Premier League and are performing like potential champions. They currently boast an eight-point lead over Manchester City - who can reduce the gap back to five points by beating Wolves on Sunday - and are the favourites to win the title with the bookmakers.

Liverpool’s players were obviously delighted after beating Leicester with virtually the last kick of the game, but there were unsavoury scenes between the two sets of players shortly after the final whistle.

Ayoze Perez and several Liverpool players - including Milner, Adam Lallana and Andy Robertson - were involved in an altercation which quickly developed into a mini brawl.

It was unclear why Perez was so angry but new footage has emerged which might explain why he and some of his teammates lost their heads.

Footage of Milner’s penalty taken from a fan in the stand behind the goal shows Lallana grabbing the ball, kicking out at Kasper Schmeichel and then getting roughed up by a couple of the Leicester players.

It seems this is where the trouble may have stemmed from. Over-exuberant celebrations were almost certainly to blame.

Klopp was asked about the incident in his post-match press conference, per the Daily Mail, and told journalists: “Andy Robertson celebrated on final whistle and pushed [Perez], which he probably didn't expect, which he was annoyed at.”
