For Sky Sports to call Newcastle United vs Manchester United ‘Super’ was bordering on false advertising.Newcastle went into the clash in 19th, while United were looking for their first away win in any competition since THAT 3-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain on March 6.Something had to give…But in the first-half literally nothing gave.In truth, it was absolutely awful.

But on the stroke of half-time, United had the perfect chance to take the lead - and it fell to Harry Maguire.

The £80 million defender was unmarked from a corner but he, somehow, managed to head the ball wide.

Oh dear.

It was about as good as the first-half got for United though.

However, they did manage their first shot on target in more than 180 minutes when Andreas Pereira's long-range effort was easily saved by Martin Dubravka.

On Thursday, the Red Devils failed to trouble AZ Alkmaar's goalkeeper during their drab 0-0 draw in the Europa League.

However, it was a performance that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed he was 'very happy' with.

"Very happy with the boys, we come away with a good performance," said Solskjaer in his post-match interview.

"Good performance against a good opponent on a very bad surface.

"If you get your draws away from home and win your home games you’ll be fine. We go to Belgrade wanting a win and that sets you up nicely."

Failure to beat Newcastle, though, and there's no way Solskjaer will be happy.
