The Rock has turned down Randy Orton's request for the two to have a WWE match at WrestleMania 36 next year in Tampa Bay.

Last week, Randy Orton challenged The Rock to a match at WrestleMania 36 and he was hoping to get a response by The Great One on SmackDown's debut on Fox last Friday.

However, the show came and went with no response from The People's Champion, but he didn't ignore The Viper's request, as he has now responded.

Unfortunately though, The Rock turned down Orton's challenge for a match at WrestleMania 36.

He said in a tweet: "U think Bob O Sr & Chief Maivia along with our pops’ Bob Jr & the Soulman ran up and down those roads for decades taking bumps just so we can sell out WM36 so you can RKO my a** thru the earth.

"My body’s still recovering from that Evolution beatdown you gave me at WM20 😂"

Although he hasn't directly rejected the challenge, many WWE fans, including The Viper himself, are taking this reply as a no to a match at next year's Showcase of Immortals.

Orton said in his reply to the tweet: "My man. So I guess that’s a ‘no’ 🥺"

The Rock and Orton have never faced each other in a one-on-one match before, so WrestleMania 36 would be creating history if this clash goes ahead.

The magnitude of the names involved should be more than enough for WWE to book this match, but it looks like The People's Champion isn't free for WrestleMania next year.

The Rock did say back in August that he's quietly retired from wrestling. Obviously, this doesn't stop him from making appearances for WWE, it just means he's not going to compete in the ring again.

If this stands, the last time The Great One stepped foot inside a WWE ring for a match would be WrestleMania 32 when he had an impromptu match vs Erick Rowan.

His last match before that with a proper build was at WrestleMania 29 and it was the culmination of his multi-year feud with John Cena. He lost the WWE Championship that night to Cena.

Fingers crossed we get to see The Rock compete in the ring one more time for a proper farewell, and hopefully, his final match will be against The Viper.
