Fred hasn't found a Man Utd teammate with a through ball since playing Barcelona in April

Fred has been an unmitigated disaster at Manchester United

Manchester United are currently at their lowest point in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The Red Devils have amassed just nine points from their opening eight Premier League games in 2019/20 and they sit just two points outside the relegation places.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have scored just nine goals in those eight games as well and they're desperately lacking any sort of creativity.

Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira and Fred look far more likely to misplace a simple pass than create a chance for one of United's forwards.

The latter of that trio may go down as United's worst ever purchase. Yes, worse than Alexis Sanchez.

Fred cost the Red Devils £52m back in the summer of 2018, but has been woeful in his 25 appearances for the club.

He has recorded just one assist from midfield and one of his passing stats sums up exactly why the United fan base are turning on him.

As per the Mirror, Fred has not delivered a successful through ball to a teammate since April.

His last success came at home against Barcelona and even then, his pass was miscontrolled by Marcus Rashford and simply trickled through to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ironically, Fred's performance that night was arguably his best in a United shirt, but things have gone downhill at a rapid rate since.

The Brazilian has attempted five through balls in the aftermath of that 1-0 defeat to Barca, with all of them failing to reach their designated target.

Fred saw passes against Kristansaund, Astana, West Ham and AZ Alkmaar (x2) either intercepted by a defender or roll out of play.

When he was signed, Jose Mourinho said: "His [Fred] creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game."

Jose Mourinho was confident Fred would be a success

Sadly, it's been the polar opposite of Mourinho's prediction, with Martin Keown labelling Fred a 'joke' on Match of the Day 2 last night.

"They're so inept in possession. Fred, it's almost becoming a joke when he gets the ball. I know it's good closing down but you've got to be able to control it and pass," the Arsenal legend said.

"If that's the central midfield then there's not going to be anything created."

It might be time to bring the Fred experiment to an end...
