Seriously, what is going on with Manchester United right now?The disappointing results and terrible form have been bubbling away at Old Trafford for some time, but the recent run of results leave them teetering towards the relegation zone. After a spineless defeat at West Ham United, stumbling to a penalty victory against Rochdale and drawing 0-0 at AZ Alkmaar, the Red Devils crashed to a whole new nadir at St. James' Park.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left apologising to supporters after a Matty Longstaff winner confined United to a 1-0 defeat, extending their worst run of away form since the 1980s.The situation is so dire that United are being branded a mid-table team and now Sam Allardyce has claimed that the club could race a relegation battle. Seriously.

Man Utd struggling this season

The former Everton boss said on talkSPORT: "It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that they could catastrophically fall into more problems if confidence goes and injuries stay like they are.

"Players tend not to get as fit as quick as they would do when things are going well, that's an absolute fact.

"Manchester United do not have enough goals and you can see it becoming a struggle. Hopefully it's not a struggle down the bottom end, but they're certainly heading that way."

Man Utd fan wants 'Big Sam' takeover

And if United genuinely became involved in a relegation battle and Solskjaer was forced to bite the bullet, would they be after a manager that could save them from the Championship?

Ok, admittedly, this hypothetical has gone a little far even in the face of United's plight, but try telling that to Red Devils fan Andy.

On the same show that saw Allardyce drive the knife into United, Andy came on air to suggest that 'Big Sam' himself could be the perfect replacement if Solskjaer was given his marching orders.

“If they do get rid of Ole, which they will if things do not improve, then I wouldn’t mind Big Sam,” Andy said during the phone-in.

“There’s been talk of [Massimiliano] Allegri, [Zinedine] Zidane, [Mauricio] Pochettino. We have got more trophies in the Red Cafe than Poch!

“People like Allardyce puts it forward, so simple, so straightforward - this is what I am gonna do, if you’re with me lets go, if not - see ya later.”

Stop the world, we want to get off.

It's no wonder Allardyce responded by saying that was a 'big compliment' but - in spite of his Premier League experience - pigs will fly before he's unveiled at Old Trafford.

Plus, we're pretty sure Andy is in something of a minority here, even if he could find solace in tracking down the United supporter who was calling for Tony Pulis two years ago.
