Chelsea's 2015/16 FA Youth Cup winning squad - where are they now?

Chelsea v Manchester City: FA Youth Cup Final - Second Leg

For years, Chelsea were criticised for not giving their academy prospects opportunities in the first-team.

The club would often rely on Roman Abramovich's millions to help them collect trophies rather than look towards the talented youngsters that were emerging at Stamford Bridge.

But things have changed.

Of course, the summer’s transfer ban has forced Frank Lampard’s hand but it’s refreshing to see numerous young players given the opportunity at the club.

Not only have they been given a chance but they’ve grabbed it both hands.

Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have all impressed for Chelsea this season and have each been rewarded with a call-up to the England squad.

The trio actually played together in Chelsea’s youth squad and won the 2016 FA Youth Cup - beating Jadon Sancho’s Manchester City in the final.

But who else was in that squad - and where are they now?

GIVEMESPORT have taken a look:

Nathan Baxter (On loan at Ross County)

The goalkeeper spent last season at Yeovil as they got relegated from League Two and is now at Ross County in the Scottish Premiership - but is more of a back-up.

Northampton Town v Yeovil Town - Sky Bet League Two

Trevoh Chalobah (On loan at Huddersfield Town)

Played 43 out of 46 Championship matches for Ipswich during their relegation last season. Now at Huddersfield in the second tier. Has earned two caps for England U21s and could be the next young talent to make the step up to Chelsea’s first-team.

Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea first-team)

Jake Clarke-Salter (On loan at Birmingham City)

Actually made his first-team debut under Guus Hiddink, playing 16 minutes during a 4-0 win against Aston Villa. Also played in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest during the 2017/18 campaign.

Captained England U21s at last summer’s European Championships and spent last season at affiliated club Vitesse.

Croatia v England: Group C - 2019 UEFA U-21 Championship

Ruben Sammut (Sunderland)

One of the lesser-known players in Chelsea’s victorious youth side. Played 16 times for Falkirk last season before being snapped up by Sunderland in the summer.

Yet to play a first-team match for the Black Cats.

Falkirk v Aberdeen - Pre-Season Friendly

Mukhtar Ali (Al-Nassr)

A Saudi Arabia international.

Ali went on loan to Vitesse before actually joining them permanently. But in the summer, he was signed for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Blackburn Rovers v Chelsea - FA Youth Cup Semi Final: First Leg

Isaac Christie-Davies (Liverpool)

Like Dominic Solanke before him, Christie-Davies swapped Chelsea for Liverpool after finding opportunities limited in west London.

He was named on the bench by Jurgen Klopp last season during their 2-1 loss to Wolves in the FA Cup last season but will find it tough to make a career for himself at the European champions.

Coventry City v Liverpool U23 - Pre-Season Friendly

Mason Mount (Chelsea first-team)

Played alongside Tomori and under Lampard at Derby last season - and impressed.

But nobody expected him to take the Premier League by storm so quickly. He’s already scored against Leicester, Norwich, Wolves and Southampton this season and looks set to establish himself as a Chelsea and England regular.

Lille OSC v Chelsea FC: Group H - UEFA Champions League

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea first-team)

Twenty-six goals during a season-long loan at Bristol City in the Championship and 26 goals during a season-long loan at Aston Villa in the Championship.

But his Premier League spell at Swansea in the middle of that was less prolific with five goals in 31 appearances.

But he’s scored eight in eight league games already this season and, like Tomori and Mount, has been called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Southampton FC v Chelsea FC - Premier League

Dujon Sterling (On loan at Wigan Athletic)

The attacking winger has been transformed into a right-back.

Spent last season in League One with Coventry and is now in the Championship with Wigan - although he’s struggling to play regularly.

Oxford United v Coventry City - Sky Bet League One

Substitutes

Jacob Maddox (On loan at Tranmere Rovers)

Was on loan at League Two Cheltenham last season and is now at Tranmere in League One.

Northampton Town v Cheltenham Town - Sky Bet League Two

Josh Grant (On loan at Plymouth Argyle)

Played eight times for Yeovil last season after joining them on loan in January. Is now at Plymouth in League Two.

Yeovil Town v Lincoln City - Sky Bet League Two

Ike Ugbo

Experienced the English lower leagues with Barnsley, Milton Keynes Dons and Scunthorpe.

But he now finds himself in the second-tier of Dutch football with Roda JC - and has already scored five goals in eight appearances this season.
