Raw choose Becky Lynch as number one draft pick; Bray Wyatt heads to SmackDown

Becky Lynch

The much-anticipated WWE Draft began its first night on Friday Night SmackDown, as a hard brand split is enforced once again.

Lets face it - not many people enjoyed the Wild Card Rule that came into effect months ago. It overexposed some superstars and made things awfully complicated for storylines.

With SmackDown now on FOX and Raw still on USA Network, both networks wanted separate, exclusive rosters, and both companies were cleverly integrated into the show.

Unlike previous drafts, where General Managers of brands have chosen superstars, it was the network officials which were shown to make the picks, with Stephanie McMahon announcing each choice like what would happen in the NFL or NBA Draft.

It was a lot more sports-themed and because Raw's Seth Rollins won the opening match of the night via disqualification due to The Fiend's interference, the red brand got the first pick of the draft.

The honour of being first pick went to the trailblazing Becky Lynch - but then again it would be strange if USA Network didn't pick the Raw Women's Champion.

FOX countered that pick with the selection of Roman Reigns, and they added Bray Wyatt to Friday nights, despite the fact he's done all his work under his new persona on Raw.

The red brand added all three members of The O.C. - AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, Ricochet, Bobby Lashley, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross, The Viking Raiders, The Street Profits AND Kevin Owens to what is looking like a stacked roster.

Meanwhile SmackDown, who get two picks to Raw's three due to the hour-long disparity in the shows, selected Sasha Banks, Braun Strowman, Lacey Evans, The Revival, Heavy Machinery and Lucha House Party.

That left a ton of free agents who are able to sign with any brand, including Chad 'Shorty' Gable, but most notably Cesaro, who may very well end up going to NXT.

The second night of the draft commences in Denver this Monday on Raw, where the rest of the roster will be eligible to be selected.

The likes of Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, King Corbin, all three members of The New Day and many, many more will reveal their fate in just three days time.
