Cesaro and 11 other superstars become free agents after SmackDown's WWE Draft

Following the first day of the WWE Draft on SmackDown, 12 superstars find themselves as free agents, meaning they can now choose which brand they want to sign for.

The WWE Draft got underway on Friday Night SmackDown last night, and in total, 20 selections were made in last night's draft for Raw and SmackDown.

At the end of last night's blue brand show, 12 superstars remained in the pool of superstars designated to be drafted on SmackDown.

WWE's Draft storyline states if a superstar isn't drafted from their pool, they will become free agents. They will be free to sign for either Raw or SmackDown.

The superstars that have become free agents are Cesaro, Humberto Carrillo, Akira Tozawa, Sin Cara, Eric Young, EC3, Chad Gable, Heath Slater, Drew Gulak, The B-Team (Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel), and Tamina.

Another night of drafting will take place on Monday Night Raw next week, but these superstars listed above will not be included.

The biggest surprise on this list given his most recent push is Cesaro, and he reacted to the news of not being drafted with a simple tweet that reads: "Free agent."

There have been some rumblings recently that he could be joining NXT or NXT UK but it's unclear if his free agent status restricts him to only signing with Raw or SmackDown.

Another interesting superstar who wasn't drafted was Chad Gable, but he was featured and billed as Shorty Gable on SmackDown this week, as he lost in a match against King Corbin.

Given his recent push, Gable is expected to sign with either Raw or SmackDown.

WWE has to make a decision on their 205 Live superstars as well that were part of the draft pool and decide if they'll be a part of the main roster or compete vs Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush in NXT.

Despite being free agents, it's unlikely that any of the 12 superstars listed above will be released by WWE due to the competitive nature of wrestling right now with the rise of AEW.
