When Real Madrid signed a 16-year-old Martin Odegaard in January 2015 on a six-year deal, everyone thought they had captured the next big thing. But after a couple of seasons playing for Real Madrid Castilla, there were fears that the midfielder wouldn’t ever fulfil his potential at the Bernabeu. He didn’t exactly set the world alight during a two-year loan spell at Heerenveen in the Eredivisie either. But he really started to show promise last season at Vitesse. In fact, he showed enough quality for Real Sociedad to give him an opportunity to play in La Liga this season.

And he’s currently grasping that opportunity with both hands.

Now 20, Odegaard has been brilliant so far this season for Sociedad.

And last night, he impressed for his country Norway against Spain in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Norway are in contention to qualify from a group consisting of Spain, Sweden, Romania, Malta and Faroe Islands.

And they earned a crucial 1-1 draw with Spain on Saturday night thanks to a late Josh King penalty.

But Odegaard was brilliant throughout - as his individual highlights video show. His stats are pretty decent too!

He even produced a cheeky nutmeg on Sergio Ramos before he was fouled by the Real Madrid captain - he’ll be reminding him of that when he returns to Madrid.

But that nutmeg was cancelled out after Barcelona's Sergio Busquets did the same to him.
