Eddie Hearn has slammed WWE's 'embarrassing' Crown Jewel press conference

Braun Strowman and Tyson Fury

In a press conference that took place in Las Vegas on Friday, WWE confirmed that two huge matches with cross-over appeal would be taking place at the end of October.

At Crown Jewel on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the lineal heavyweight champion of the boxing world - Tyson Fury - will compete in his first wrestling match against Braun Strowman.

And not only that, former UFC star Cain Velasquez will step into a WWE ring for the first time as well, where he will take on Brock Lesnar - the man he defeated inside the Octagon nine years ago.

Velasquez has actually signed a multi-year, full-time deal to link-up with WWE, signalling the end of his MMA career.

Fury though will be involved in a one-off match, presumably to increase his profile in the United States as he builds towards a rematch with Deontay Wilder in 2020.

There's always a chance though that the cut he received in his September clash with Otto Wallin could re-open against Strowman though, and if that happened his second bout with Wilder would almost certainly be pushed back.

Tyson Fury's cut suffered at the hands of Otto Wallin could be at risk in his match against Braun Strowman

One man who wasn't a fan of the histrionics at the press conference and on Raw last week was huge boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who labelled it 'embarrassing' - but he can see why Fury is doing it.

"It’s great innit. I watched the press conference, it was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s massive exposure," Hearn told Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, per Metro.

"Listen, he’s nicking a few quid, he’s going out there, why not?

‘It’s going to be good for his profile worldwide, and like I say he’s getting a few quid.

Eddie Hearn is not a fan of the set-up of Tyson Fury's big WWE match

"Have you seen the video when they were hitting each other? I was like [puts head in hands cringing]. Bit of good fun."

Fury's WWE appearance wasn't ever going to appeal to everyone, but it's obvious why he's agreed to participate.

It's already created a huge buzz in the news and on social media - now all we have to see is how he gets on in his debut in a couple of weeks time against the Monster Among Men.
