Cristiano Ronaldo told Gianluigi Buffon his iconic bicycle kick 'wasn't bad for a 33-year-old'

Ronaldo scored a remarkable goal past Buffon in 2018.

We saw one of the Champions League's all-time iconic moments when Juventus and Real Madrid met in 2018.

Real travelled to Turin for the first-leg of their quarter-final tie hoping to come away with a respectable result.

They got more than that, however, as they smashed the Italian champions 3-0 thanks to a remarkable performance from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo grabbed two but his second, scored just after the hour mark, was truly incredible.

Dani Carvajal got the ball into the box from the right and Ronaldo met it with a picture-perfect bicycle kick from around the penalty spot.

It flew into the top corner, past the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, and sparked a mix of awe and applause from the Turin crowd.

And now Buffon has revealed his own reaction to the goal.

“After 25 seconds or so of the usual frustration you get when you concede a goal, I thought about what he had done to me, which was a really special goal," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport, per AS.

"And I asked him: ‘Cristiano, how old are you again?’ And he replied: ‘Not bad for a 33-year-old eh?'

Ronaldo and Buffon after Real beat Juve 3-0 in Turin.

"We both ended up laughing.”

Ronaldo would join Juventus at the end of the season, of course - although, he wouldn't be joining Buffon there.

The Italian had seen out his contract and signed for Paris Saint-Germain, meaning the duo didn't play together last season.

But now Buffon is back at Juve and he's thrilled to be playing alongside a player like Ronaldo.

“At the end of my career I have finally been given the opportunity to play with Cristiano, which is an added bonus," he said.

"It’s difficult to become a better player if you don’t play with the best in the world and I always wanted to add him to the list of great champions I have played alongside."
