Emre Can isn't having a good 2019 - things are going backwards in a big way.

He joined Juventus a year ago on a free transfer, looking to make a step up from Liverpool.

Safe to say that things haven't gone to plan there as the Reds shot up to become champions of Europe and one of the world's best teams since.

And while Can didn't have a terrible first season in Serie A by any means, his second is looking disastrous.

Both Adrian Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey arrived in the summer and took Can's place in the side twice over.

He's yet to even start a game this season and has made just three substitute appearances in Serie A that total under 80 minutes.

And his Champions League minutes? Zero - he isn't even in the squad this season.

Reports now suggest that Juve are happy to use him as a makeweight to re-sign Paul Pogba, too.

But at least there's international football to give Can a chance to shine, right? Not quite.

The midfielder, playing at centre back, suffered an embarrassing red card against Estonia on Sunday.

He let a pass go across him on the edge of the box but got to the ball second, brought down the attacker, and was sent off as the last man.

Ouch.

Can simply needs to be putting in quality displays for the national side or he risks dropping out of that squad, too.

They're hardly going to pick a player who is barely playing for his club side and has been replaced by multiple signings.

But a red card like that is only going to damage things further.

It hasn't been a good 2019 for Can - and things appear to be getting even worse, no matter who he's playing for.

Think he regrets leaving Liverpool yet?
