Japan’s victory against Scotland in Yokohama brought the pool stages of the 2019 Rugby World Cup to a close on Sunday.

After a thrilling match, the hosts topped their pool and became the first Asian side to qualify for the competition’s quarter-finals.

The morning after Japan’s historic feat, the Rugby World Cup released a video counting down the top tries of the tournament so far.

At number five was Welshman Josh Adams’ try against Fiji after a sublime offload from tumbling centre Jonathan Davies.

That try can be seen in the below video at the 1:40 mark.

Just missing out on a podium place was Cobus Reinach. The South African finished off a perfectly executed move to score the fastest hat-trick in World Cup history.

That try can be seen below at the 0:37 mark.

At number three was New Zealand’s George Bridge, who touched down a characteristically powerful attack for the All Blacks in their victory against South Africa.

That try can be seen below at the 0:17 mark.

Keita Inagaki’s spectacular try against Scotland took second place. After a succession of quick offloads, the Japanese prop dived between the posts to give his country the lead.

That try can be seen below at the 1:30 mark.

The top spot, however, was clinched thanks to an even more audacious offload.

In New Zealand’s thumping win over Namibia, a behind-the-back pass from Brad Weber unleashed TJ Perenara down the wing who drove to the line to finish a swift All Black move.

That try can be seen below at the 2.26 mark.

The quarter-finals, which get underway on October 19, will no doubt showcase even more talent.

England’s campaign continues on Saturday against Australia, before Ireland lock horns with the All Blacks.

Sunday will then see Wales take on France and Japan go up against the Springboks.

With many more points to be scored, the top tries of the tournament are by no means set in stone.
