Randy Orton has been a well-established heel on SmackDown over the past few years in WWE, but now he's receiving a change of scenery to Raw, a babyface turn could be happening too.

Randy Orton was drafted to SmackDown in 2016 and since then, he's flirted between being a babyface and a heel, but for the vast majority of his time on the brand, he was a heel.

The Viper feuded as a heel with Bray Wyatt and Kofi Kingston at the top of the card, as well as Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Tye Dillinger and Shinsuke Nakamura in the midcard.

Last Friday, Orton was drafted by Raw in the WWE Draft, bringing his time on the blue brand to an end after just over three years, and the move could result in a face turn as well.

According to the Wrestling Observer, via Cageside Seats, the 13-time world champion could be turning babyface, or at least WWE is testing it out.

With The Viper's move to Raw, it would be surprising if he's not booked over the next few weeks and months to compete against Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship.

In this matchup, Orton would be a heel since Rollins is a face, but the same match could work if the roles were reversed. However, it doesn't look like WWE would go down this path with Rollins anytime soon.

Orton is also booked to be Team Ric Flair's captain against Team Hulk Hogan and their captain Rollins at Crown Jewel later this month on October 31.

Team Flair is a heel team so it would be surprising if a babyface turn for The Viper happens before this match.

However, in a dark segment last Friday after SmackDown, he was supposed to have a match against Kevin Owens, but the two instead took out cruiserweights who tried to attack them in the ring.

This dark segment matches up with the Observer's report that WWE is testing out The Viper as a babyface to see how the crowd reacts.

WWE crowds have generally reacted strongly towards Orton being a babyface in the past. The question is, does WWE need Orton as a babyface on Raw moving forward?

It's difficult to decide on an answer to that question at the moment as the draft hasn't been completed, but we should be able to figure out a definite answer once the draft concludes.
