England's 6-0 win in Bulgaria last night will sadly not be remembered for the Three Lions' brilliance on the pitch.

Instead, the game was marred by disgusting racist abuse from Bulgaria fans towards England players.

Tyrone Mings complained to the officials about the abuse, with the match actually paused on two separate occasions after conversations with captain Harry Kane and Gareth Southgate.

England players dealt with the hostile atmosphere very professionally, tearing Bulgaria's defence to shreds in response to the abuse.

Raheem Sterling scored twice, taking his tally in Euro 2020 qualifiers to eight - three more than the entire Bulgaria team.

And the Manchester City star was pretty vocal on social media after the match, slamming Bulgaria manager Krasimir Balakov for his pre-match comments.

Sterling tweeted a response to Balakov claiming England had a bigger problem with racism than Bulgaria, with the Englishman simply writing: "Mmmmh ... Not sure about this one chief."

Balakov told the media the evening before the game: "What I can say is that I don't think we have a problem.

"In the Bulgarian championship, we have a lot of players of different ethnicities and skin colour. I don't think that we have this big problem like, for example, England do."

It was evident for the world to see last night that Bulgaria has a huge problem with racist abuse at their football grounds.

Sterling followed up his response to Balakov with a thought-provoking tweet on how he felt sorry for the Bulgarian national team.

The English forward wrote: "Feeling sorry for Bulgaria to be represented by such idiots in their stadium. Anyway.. 6-0 and we go back home, at least we did our job. Safe travel to our fans, u guys did well."

Well said, Raheem.

The City forward has been the face of many anti-racism campaigns in England and his attitude on the pitch in Sofia was the perfect response to the abuse, with Sterling scoring twice in the 6-0 win.

Let's hope Bulgaria's supporters are punished for their cowardly behaviour by UEFA.
