Mexico maintained their perfect record in the CONCACAF Nations League with a 3-1 victory over Panama at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday evening.

Roberto Alvarado put El Tri ahead in the 28th minute before a Carlos Salcedo own goal marred an otherwise composed first-half display from Gerardo Martino’s young, rotated side.

The setback came moments before the interval and threatened to let Panama seize control of proceedings in the second period.

The visitors had several chances to score their second and rued failing to do so when Jose Juan Macias restored Mexico’s advantage 15 minutes from the final whistle.

Rodolfo Pizarro made sure of the three points with a neat finish from the edge of the box in added time.

After winning 5-1 away at Bermuda last week, the result puts Mexico firmly in command of Group B and a step closer to the competition semi-finals, which take place next June.

However, the result was blighted by an injury to Napoli forward Hirving Lozano.

The 24-year-old was brought down from behind by Panama’s Abdiel Ayarza before Fidel Escobar stepped on his ankle as he fell to the ground.

The second point of contact appeared to be what hurt Lozano, who received treatment for several minutes until it was deemed necessary to stretcher him off the pitch.

It’s always a sad sight when a player is unable to continue - but a Panamanian broadcaster appeared to think otherwise based on their reaction to Lozano’s substitution.

TVMAX Deportes claimed the player who tackled Lozano had ‘done his job’ by ‘neutralising’ the former PSV man by ‘taking him out of the game’.

You can see their disgusting tweet below:

Translated into English, the entire tweet reads: "HE DID THE JOB! Abdiel Ayarza came in for change and took Irving 'El Chucky' Lozano out of the game. The CAI player neutralized the Napoli player of Serie A of Italy."

Unsurprisingly, TVMAX Deportes’ comments were met with widespread disapproval.

Suggesting a player would deliberately harm an opponent to gain a competitive advantage is a level of classlessness that has no place in football.

Thankfully, Lozano was seen walking after the match, but you can bet Mexico and Napoli will be eager to assess the extent of his injury.
