What a time it is to be a Liverpool fan.

Top of the league by eight whole points, a sixth European Cup tucked safely away in the cabinet and a trip to a wounded rival to look forward to.

The Reds will be extremely confident of taking three points from behind enemy lines when they face  Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Anfield side are already a whopping 15 points clear of their age-old rivals and will be desperate to rub further salt into the wound on Sunday.

It was only a few years ago that United fans would salivate over a trip to Anfield with three points pretty much guaranteed.

Those United sides were simply unstoppable at times but now, the question is being asked, is Liverpool's current band of merry men better than the United flock of years gone by?

Well, if we were to look at their deadly attacking line-ups, we could get an idea.

Who can forget the damage done to so many teams when Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were at the peak of their powers?

They were simply magnificent at times and you can be certain defenders are still having nightmares about them.

However, Liverpool's trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah can claim to be just as good.

In fact, if you look at the stats, they are far better.

Over the two seasons that Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo operated together, they plundered 140 goals between them.

Meanwhile, over the two seasons that the Liverpool trio have been together, they have bagged a staggering 160 goals between them.

Yes, Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo lead United to the Premier League title, but who is to say Liverpool won't finally end their painful title drought this season?

The fact is, goals are the currency of any front line, and Liverpool's lot have more.
