We're only eight games in, and the 2019/20 Premier League season has already turned into one to forget for Manchester United fans.

The Red Devils have won just two of their opening eight clashes and are already a whopping 15 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals, Liverpool.

They have struggled to create genuine clear cut chances from open play while world-record signing Harry Maguire is yet to make his mark of the defence.

What better time than the present then, to entertain the unbeaten, runaway leaders?

For under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, an upset win over the old enemy would lift a mighty pile of pressure off of his shoulders but, it seems that even if United lose, the Norwegian's job is still safe.

That is because he has received the full backing of United's bigwigs - namely Ed Woodward and the Glazer family.

Speaking ahead of the massive Sunday afternoon clash at Old Trafford, Woodward outlined a few reasons as to why the club is sticking with Solskjaer.

“Ole has instilled discipline where we may have lacked it in recent years.

“He is building a squad that respects the club’s history, in which players work hard and respect their team-mates. No one is bigger than the club.

“The changes over the summer resulted in a very young squad.

“But it’s also a squad that provides a base camp for us to grow as we start our new journey.

“Ole’s vision maps our objectives.

We must win trophies, play attacking football and give youth its chance.

“The middle of last season, after Ole’s arrival, shows where we want to be. We saw a team playing fast, fluid football.”

In other words, Woodward believes Solskjaer needs more time.

There is no questioning that United played some marvellous football in that initial period after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, but their form has gone off a cliff of late.

Solskjaer will be desperate for a turn around in fortunes and the impending visit of Liverpool could prove to be the perfect springboard to kick start their season.
