Manchester United are the greatest team in Premier League history, there's no doubting it.

Their astonishing total of 13 titles wins completely eclipses the relative successes of Chelsea (5), Manchester City (4), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1) and Leicester City (1).

Sure, they've been down in the dumps since Sir Alex Ferguson hung up his hairdryer in 2013, but the Red Devils' romping success in the two decades prior will never be forgotten.

And we've decided to rank every single United team of the Premier League era, such an unenviable task that we're using statistics - compiled by Betting-Directory.com - instead of putting our opinion on the line.

So, what's the criteria? Well, we've assigned every United season a ranking between one and 28 for five categories, before tallying them up and sorting from worst to best.

Ranking every single Man Utd team

The areas of focus are: average points per game, average goals scored per game, average goals conceded per game, average points per home game, average points per away game and final league position.

Therefore, whichever season has the lowest sum of rankings (because first place is a lower number than third but worth more, you see), they're duly rated highest and so forth.

But enough of the chit chat, here are the final, definitive rankings:

28. 2019/20 season

Oh dear. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's current team are rock bottom with the worst points per game, worst goals per game, worst away record and, well, they're sitting in 12th place at the moment.

27. 2018/19 season

In second last is the only other season in which Solskjaer was a manager, ouch. Ok, the Norwegian's interim form probably saved them from dead last, but it's still a pretty bad look.

=25. 2013/14 season

There's good reason to think David Moyes should have been given more time, but the statistics suggest he was behind one of United's worst ever seasons.

=25. 2015/16 season

Louis van Gaal's second season in charge was painfully dull and they came second last for average goals scored per game. Shock horror.

24. 2014/15 season

Ah, here's the other Van Gaal season. At least they made the top four in this particular year.

23. 2016/17 season

Considering Jose Mourinho could only guide United to sixth place in 2016/17, it's perhaps impressive - kind of, not really - that his debut campaign isn't further down the list.

22. 2003/04 season

The worst Sir Alex Ferguson season on the list. While Arsenal became 'Invincibles', the Red Devils were stewing in third place and were particularly poor at Old Trafford.

21. 2004/05 season

The season after didn't get much better, either. This time it was Mourinho's Chelsea who took centre stage.

20. 2001/02 season

By way of averaging two points per game and conceding 1.2 goals per match, United were statistically unattractive on their way to becoming Arsenal's bridesmaids.

19. 1996/97 season

But they won the league this season!? Yes, calm down, but this is also the worst Premier League winning team in history with, trust us, a pretty paltry winning total of 75 points.

18. 1997/98 season

Despite actually improving on their title-winning escapades from the previous season, United were caught napping by the Arsene Wenger revolution.

17. 1992/93 season

The first United title winners certainly weren't the best.

16. 1994/95 season

Ferguson took it to the final day of the season, but they ultimately came up second best to Blackburn.

15. 2005/06 season

Here's where the post-2003 blip started to come to an end. Although Chelsea won the league once again, Ferguson instigated a real statistical improvement in his younger United side.

14. 1998/99 season

We hate to break it to you, but the treble winners didn't actually have that great of a Premier League season and - as you will see - they were actually far better the year after.

13. 2017/18 season

Now, here's an interesting one. When Mourinho rabbited on about how proud he was of finishing second, clearly everybody should have looked at the statistics before cracking jokes.

12. 2010/11 season

It's always really tough and bizarre criticising a title-winning season but in the pantheon of legendary United campaigns, this one doesn't live long in the memory.

11. 2000/01 season

You could say this was the beginning of the end for United's trophy monopoly in the early Premier League years.

10. 2002/03 season

But if you disagree with the above statement, then this is most certainly your answer.

9. 1995/96 season

A back-on-track sort of season for the Red Devils, where averaging an eye-watering 2.7 points per game at Old Trafford was crucial in knocking Blackburn off their perch.

8. 1993/94 season

How is United's highest ever points tally in eighth place? Well, a surprisingly leaky defence and the fact 22 teams played in the Premier League this season blur the statistics somewhat.

=6. 2008/09 season

Although the goals dried up ever so slightly, United were still a class above and Edwin van der Sar marshalled their lowest ever goals-conceded-per-game average.

=6. 2012/13 season

A truly fitting and strong finish to the Ferguson era. Special praise goes to Robin van Persie, mind.

5. 2011/12 season

It might seem surprising to see a United team who were runners-up finishing so highly, but a cracking season from Wayne Rooney ensured their second best goal-per-game average ever.

4. 2009/10 season

Another side that finished second. The Red Devils threw the kitchen sink at this title campaign - boasting a stunning scored record - but Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea were just something else.

3. 1999/00 season

Ladies and gentlemen, the freest scoring United team in Premier League history.

2. 2007/08 season

With a Ballon d'Or-winning Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line, United bagged themselves the league title and Champions League crown to boot.

1. 2006/07 season

Despite having gone three years without a title win and not actually topping four of our data sets, this is the most well-rounded, across-the-board United side that we've ever seen.
