In a bid to increase the visibility of women’s sport, Sarasota Mall will house the preview centre for the only museum in the world dedicated to women in sport at the University Town Centre in 2020.

The mall has invested in a preview space for a future Women’s Sports Museum as a way to build interest and raise money to establish a permanent Museum in Sarasota.

General manager of the Mall at UTC, Jeramy Burkinshaw, predicts that the preview exhibition will, “undoubtedly be a top attraction” and spoke about ways in which the preview centre will help build awareness. “After too many years in the shadows, women’s sport is finally getting its time to shine.”

The preview centre for the Women’s Sports Museum aims to highlight the history of women in sport and honour trailblazers such as athletes, coaches, and leaders. The preview space will feature historical documents and artefacts, state-of-the-art exhibits and personal recollections from athletes and others.

Sarasota provides an ideal base for the Women’s Sports Museum as the city has hosted many sporting events, for instance, the World Rowing Masters Regatta, Puma Cup Soccer Tournament, Sarasota Open (ATP), and many more.

Former World No.1 American tennis player Billie Jean King perfectly encapsulates the sentiment of the innovation by stating on the organisation's official website, “The significance of having a women’s sports museum goes beyond giving us a voice… we need a permanent place that showcases our history, celebrates our accomplishments and inspires our future generations.”
