ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports the rookie has avoided serious injury to his right knee, but New Orleans is airing on the side of caution with the athlete being rumoured to be out for several weeks.

Although the exact nature of the injury is yet to be confirmed, Williamson was pulled from the Pelicans’ most recent preseason game against the Knicks and underwent further tests in New Orleans on Thursday. 

The news comes as a blow to New Orleans who must face a regular-season opener without their star rookie on the roster.
