Barcelona moved to the top of La Liga with a comfortable 3-0 win away to Eibar at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann set the visitors on their way with a fine low finish in the 13th minute.

Eibar managed to keep the deficit at one goal until the half-time break, but their efforts were undone by Lionel Messi shortly before the hour mark.

The Argentine - who has scored or assisted at least once in each of his last four games - deftly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic to double Barcelona’s advantage.

Messi was involved again eight minutes later, unselfishly finding Luis Suarez to tap in a third after the Uruguayan had a goal disallowed when the scoreline was 1-0.

While it was pleasing to see the Messi, Suarez and Griezmann trio finally yielding results, the Eibar fans in attendance directed their praise to a player who didn’t get on the scoresheet.

Frenkie de Jong played 79 minutes of the match before Ernesto Valverde chose to give him a breather ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Slavia Prague.

The Dutchman has featured in each of the Blaugrana’s 11 matches so far this season, though this performance was a particularly impressive one.

De Jong dictated the pace of play with the authority expected of someone who’s done so in the Barcelona midfield for years, rather than barely three months.

His class blew away the home supporters, who give him an ovation as he made way for Ivan Rakitic late on.

De Jong looks to be part of the furniture at Barcelona, and it’s unlikely to be the last time we see the 22-year-old leave an audience applauding in awe.

His display was central to Barcelona securing their fifth straight win in all competitions as they look to stay ahead of Real Madrid, who travel to Mallorca on Saturday evening.
