Tottenham scored a controversial late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against Watford. The Hornets were bottom of the Premier League table going into today's game in north London and they took the lead thanks to a goal from Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, Dele Alli was on hand - no pun intended - to score a dubious late equaliser, one which the VAR display in the stadium ruled as 'No Goal' due to an apparent handball. However, the referee overruled the decision and awarded Spurs the goal, despite Alli himself looking pretty guilty.

A very dubious goal, one which simply adds yet more scepticism over the use of VAR in the Premier League.

Watford started the game brightly despite losing Danny Welbeck to injury and they were rewarded in the sixth minute.

Daryl Janmaat's low cross found Doucoure unmarked in the Spurs box and the Frenchman easily guided the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga.

The home side attempted to respond after, but a front three of Harry Kane, Alli and Lucas Moura struggled to test the Watford back line.

Heung-min Son was introduced at the break, replacing the horrendously out-of-form Davinson Sanchez, but Spurs still struggled to find a breakthrough.

If anything, Watford could have added more in the second half, with Doucoure the dominant force in the middle of the park.

However, Alli was on hand to strike late on to hand Spurs an undeserved but potentially priceless point.

VAR, eh?
