After England and New Zealand easily beat Australia and Ireland respectively in their World Cup quarter-finals, it was hoped that France against Wales would be a closer affair.

Wales went into the game as favourites but they made the worst start to the game imaginable.

In the 5th minute, France drove from a line-out and Sebastien Vahaamahina went over the try-line.

And it wouldn't take long until they scored their second try of the game.

Virimi Vakatawa broke away and Charles Ollivon would go on to score. Romain Ntamack missed his first conversion but no mistake this time to make it 12-0 to France after just seven minutes.

Wales needed to fight back and keep themselves within touching distance and they got the response they wanted five minutes later.

Guilhem Guirado spilled the ball after a big tackle and Aaron Wainwright went over to get Wales back into the game.

Wales cut the deficit to just two points when Dan Biggar capitalised after being given a penalty, but it was France who would go into half-time with a nine-point lead, with Vakatawa scoring his first try of the game.

France were in the driving seat but then came the turning point of the game - a red card.

Vahaamahina went from hero to zero as his stupid elbow saw him receive his marching orders.

Watch it below:

Absolutely senseless.

It was always going to be a tough task for France to hold on and with 10 minutes remaining, their lead was cut to six points.

They were doing their best to keep Wales out but their resolve was broken seven minutes from time when Justin Tipuric scored the game-winning try.

Biggar nailed the conversion to give them a 20-19 point and Wales held on to secure their place in the World Cup semi-finals.
