The two northern powerhouses of English football met on Sunday afternoon as high flying Liverpool travelled to a limping Manchester United.

The alarming contrast in fortunes between the two clubs was clear for all to see, but on these titanic days, the form book counts for nothing.

Liverpool have brushed aside all comers so far on the domestic front, winning their opening eight fixtures to top the league.

United, on the other hand, have been mightily disappointing.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side had won just two of their opening fixtures as they welcomed Jurgen Klopp's marvellous side.

It has been a tumultuous few months at Old Trafford with the United faithful forced to watch on as their beloved club continues to struggle.

Many have been calling for change, in both the manager and the board room but, sadly, their cries have fallen on deaf ears.

With that in mind, one group of United fans decided to step up their protests by taking them to the skies over Old Trafford.

In the moments before kick-off, a plane was seen circling the famous old stadium with a banner in tow.

The message was a simple one:

"Ed still failing - #woodwardout"

Woodward has taken incredible flack for United's woeful on-field performances of late and it seems United fans have finally had enough.

A win against the old enemy might by him some time, but you can't help but feel that something has to change and change soon.
