An under-pressure Manchester United returned from the international break by welcoming their biggest rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard remain unavailable, but injury doubts David de Gea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka started the game and Anthony Martial was fit enough to make the bench.

United, who were forced to replace Axel Tuanzebe with Marcos Rojo just before kick-off, started the match pretty well before Liverpool started to show signs of finding their rhythm.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men looked most dangerous on the counter-attack during the 1-1 draw and that's what led to Marcus Rashford's lively encounter with Liverpool colossus Virgil van Dijk.

Harry Maguire fired a ball into the channel after aggressively winning back possession, and Rashford managed to out-muscle Van Dijk in their duel, leaving the 28-year-old on the floor too.

Rashford dominates Van Dijk in physical battle

Rashford's goalscoring form had dipped in recent weeks, however he opened the scoring in England's 6-0 win at Bulgaria with a lovely finish from a difficult angle.

During Man Utd's clash with Liverpool, the 21-year-old forward and Van Dijk got into a speed battle as they both chased after Maguire's long ball from around the half-way line.

The pair were evenly matched in terms of pace but, as you can see below, it was a different story in terms of strength as Rashford surprisingly put Van Dijk on the turf after a shoulder challenge.

Rashford's day got even better when he gave the Red Devils the lead against Jurgen Klopp's men when he latched onto Daniel James' cross to tap home in the 36th-minute.

Adam Lallana's late leveller meant Man Utd didn't get all three points but they did prevent Liverpool from equalling Manchester City's record for consecutive Premier League victories.
