Man United and Liverpool have drawn 1-1 in a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford.VAR played a huge part, allowing Marcus Rashford's first-half goal before ruling out Sadio Mane's equaliser. But a late equaliser from Adam Lallana levelled the scores as Liverpool maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.A banner reading ‘ED - STILL FAILING: #WOODWARDOUT’ was flown over Old Trafford before kick-off as Man United fans expressed their disapproval at the way their club is being run.The Red Devils started the day in 14th place, so their frustration was entirely understandable.

But they would have been pleased with the positive start that Solskjaer’s side made against the league leaders.

Man United’s wing-backs - Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right, Ashley Young on the left - pushed up high and the hosts did a good job of making things uncomfortable for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had a glorious chance to open the scoring in the 34th minute but Roberto Firmino produced a tame shot after being found inside the area by Sadio Mane.

And Marcus Rashford made Firmino pay by giving United the lead just two minutes later.

The England striker turned home from close range after getting on the end of Daniel James’ superb cross.

The goal was reviewed by VAR - Victor Lindelof appeared to foul Divock Origi in the build-up - but it was allowed to stand, much to Klopp’s frustration.

The German was livid, letting his anger out at the fourth official.

And he was even more furious when Sadio Mane had a goal ruled out by VAR just minutes later.

Mane did well to beat Lindelof and finish past David de Gea, but his goal was chalked off after the ball struck his hand.

And that brought a breathtaking first-half to an end.

Klopp made a switch at half-time, moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jordan Henderson on the right and Firmino in the hole.

He also introduced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the hour mark as Liverpool went in search of an equaliser.

And Liverpool did begin to exert pressure on their opponents, who were beginning to defend deep.

That's a risky strategy against the Reds but the presence of Rashford and James on the counter still made United a threat.

And Rashford nearly made it 2-0 when his powerful effort flew just wide of the post.

But Liverpool weren't ready to relinquish their unbeaten record in the league and Lallana scored from close range in the 85th minute to level the scores at 1-1.

It was his first goal since May 2017. And what a time to do it.
