Jurgen Klopp hit out at Manchester United’s tactics after his Liverpool side dropped their first points in the league at Old Trafford.

Liverpool will have wanted an easier afternoon - and they probably expected one, given the contrasting fortunes of both teams this season - but they required an 85th-minute equaliser from Adam Lallana to secure a 1-1 draw.

It’s a point that maintains their unbeaten streak in the league and leaves them six points ahead of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

But Klopp wanted three points and so to leave with just one was frustrating.

He was critical of United’s tactics after the match, telling Sky Sports that they “were purely there to defend”.

“Since I'm in England Man United always played like this,” Klopp added.

“We could do better and we will be better in the future but now we have to take it like it is.”

The Liverpool boss continued his complaints when he spoke to BBC.

“We always play against the wall. We need to do better but it is how it is,” he continued.

“I don’t think Man United can play like this if the other team doesn’t have the ball as much.”

Mourinho's classic response

Jose Mourinho listened to his comments back in the Sky Sports studio and his response was classic Jose.

“That's because he didn’t beat Man United at Old Trafford,” Mourinho said.

“He didn’t like the menu. He wanted meat and got fish.

“United, with the limitations they have at the moment, they played with five at the back, were solid and didn’t give the chance of transition.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t like the menu.

Never change, Jose.

The result continues Klopp’s disappointing record at Old Trafford.

He’s never won a game at the Theatre of Dreams, drawing four times and losing once.

No wonder he isn’t happy.
