Kieran Trippier's move to Atletico Madrid was perhaps the most surprising transfer of the 2019 summer.

The English left-back turned his back on Tottenham Hotspur after their Champions League final loss to Liverpool, swapping north London for Madrid in a deal worth £20 million, plus add ons.

Settling into an entirely different culture can often be difficult - especially when there is a whole new language to learn - but Trippier seems to be happy in his sunny new surroundings.

In fact, in a recent interview with MARCA, Trippier claimed that, thanks to Diego Costa of all people, settling in has been a breeze.

While Costa is often portrayed as an absolute brute on the field, he has a reputation for being the class clown off it.

"He calls me Rooney 10 times a day," Trippier started, referring to his relationship with Costa.

"He does it all the time, just for a laugh. But it's Diego, I don't care.

"We all find it funny and I like that he always makes jokes.

"I knew him from the Premier League and he's the funniest player I've ever played with.

"There's a great atmosphere here and everyone makes jokes, but Costa is the funniest."

It seems bizarre that Costa can go from being such a grouch on the field to the life of the party off it, but that is just the kind of guy he is.

It certainly seems that his fun-loving has become quite an asset to Atletico, as the striker uses his humour to make new signings feel at home.

Trippier will now be hoping to go one step further with his new club than he did with Tottenham and claim European glory.

Having lost their fair share of finals of late, Atletico will be hoping the Englishman will be able to play a part in them finally clearing that final hurdle.

One thing is for certain though, whether they win or lose, Costa will be laughing all the way.
