Konyaspor goalkeeper Serkan Kirintili broke the record for the fastest red card in Turkish football history on Monday night.

The 34-year-old was sent off in the Turkish Super Lig clash against Yeni Malatyaspor after just 13 seconds - yes, 13 seconds(!) - following an inexplicable moment of madness.

The game had only just kicked off when Kirintili bizarrely caught the ball outside his penalty area.

The ‘keeper, who has been capped three times by Turkey, immediately knew he’d made a massive error.

Rather than wait for referee Mustafa Ogretmenoglu to show him the red card, Kirintili began to walk off the pitch and take off his gloves. He knew exactly what was coming his way.

Kirintili was consoled by opposition striker Moryke Fofana but the veteran shot-stopper knew he’d messed up and deserved the straight red.

Watch the incident here…

What on earth was going through his head?!

Kirintili put his shirt over his face as he made his way to the dugout. He must have been wondering the exact same thing.

It was a moment of madness that ended up costing his team.

Yeni Malatyaspor scored minutes later through Guilherme, while Robin Yalcin wrapped up all three points for the visitors early in the second half.

Kirintili appeared to apologise to the Konyaspor supporters after the match, putting his hand to the badge while his teammates thanked the fans for their support.

A sleepless night almost certainly followed.
