Neymar is the most expensive player in world football, costing Paris Saint-Germain an eye-watering £198 million in the summer of 2017.

The Brazilian began paying that fee back during his debut season, scoring 28 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.

But, since then, Neymar has had a pretty rough time in the French capital.

He only managed to play 17 league games last season after a series of injuries.

Neymar was also caught on camera appearing to punch a spectator in the face after PSG lost the Coupe de France final on penalties against Rennes.

Neymar’s injury problems - and bans - have continued into this season and, after missing PSG’s Champions League match against Club Brugge on Tuesday night, it now means he’s been absent for exactly 50% of matches since he joined.

That’s 63 appearances and 63 matches missed.

Not exactly what you want from a £198 million signing.

Earlier this week, Neymar was denied a place on the 30-man shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d’Or.

While there weren’t exactly football fans questioning his exclusion, France Football decided to list the eight reasons why he didn’t make their list.

It dates back to January 23, where he sustained an injury against Strasbourg.

That forced him to miss the Champions League exit to Manchester United in which he went on to insult the UEFA officials. It left him having to serve a European ban.

Then there was that punch after the cup final in April, while he also missed Brazil’s Copa America triumph in the summer.

Not to mention his “soap opera” in the summer as he failed to leave the Parc des Princes in favour of Barcelona or Real Madrid.
