Manchester United are a little short of attacking options right now.

Last season's first-choice striker Romelu Lukaku was shipped off to Inter Milan over the summer, leaving just three options.

Marcus Rashford now leads the line, with the injured Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood acting as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's back-ups.

It's fair to say United are struggling with their limited firepower.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.

The three forwards between them have netted just six goals between them and the Manchester club have picked up two wins from nine.

Something needs to be done - and quickly.

According to reports, Solskjaer is desperate to bring in another striker in January and one name that has been heavily linked is Mario Mandzukic.

The Juventus man was close to joining United towards the end of the summer window after Lukaku left, but his move broke down over his salary.

But now, he's reportedly agreed to drop those original demands and take a huge pay-cut to secure a switch to Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Mandzukic currently earns £300,000-a-week but he's now willing to take a 50% cut and sign a deal worth £150,000-a-week.

"His reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands," one source told the paper.

"There will be other bonuses factored into the deal. It looks like one that could get done now. Ole has long been an admirer of him and he is someone we have wanted for a number of years.

"His experience could prove vital for the younger players in the squad. He is also a proven goalscorer."

That all sounds promising for United, but it's debatable whether Mandzukic is really the answer to Solskjaer's problems.

Yes, the Croatian striker will offer a short-term solution but at 33, his best years are surely behind him.
