We've now entered the 28th season of the Premier League.
And while it would be easy to focus on the goal-getters who take most of the headlines, the sheer quality of midfielders that have graced English shores simply can't be ignored.
The obvious three names that come to mind are Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes who, for a variety of reasons, are regularly embroiled in a fascinating ranking debate.
However, there's much more to the Premier League midfield 'Hall of Fame' than those three and that's something which has been explored by YouTuber 'SpencerFC'.

Premier League's greatest midfielders
If you're starting to get a sense of deja vu here then don't worry, you're not losing your mind because Spencer Owen did a similar video on Premier League strikers just last week.
Both that time and this time, he used a popular website called 'Tiermaker' to organise the players who are considered the Premier League's greatest into his own, personal categories.
And in his latest video on midfielders, the separate groups were: Premier League servant, double decent but something missing, better than most, Premier League hero and Premier League legend.
Midfielders ranked into tiers
It goes without saying that Owen is by no means implicating that any of the players are bad, but rather he took on the unenviable task of sorting between the creme de la creme.
That, and the fact he also dropped the disclaimer that he is focusing solely on their Premier League careers as opposed to their stock as a player throughout their whole career.
Caveats aside, though, the full video can be watched here and you can peruse the final graphic - complete with inevitable controversies - down below:
Now, we probably defended SpencerFC's selections last time out more than football fans would have liked, but we're not so sure about this particular ranking.
What a lot of the selections come down to is Premier League titles and longevity, the former of which is most definitely behind Lampard and Scholes being placed in a tier above Gerrard.
And as for the latter justification, that simply must be behind the likes of Xabi Alonso, Gareth Bale and Luka Modric settling beneath Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick and longer-serving others.
There is certainly great reason to take timeframes into account, but there's just something that doesn't seem right about Cristiano Ronaldo rubbing shoulders with Fernandinho.
But that's just our opinion, what's yours? Like with all these tier videos, they're bound to cause controversy and no less so than when Premier League legends are being sifted through.News Now - Sport News
