When it comes to the business of goalscoring, there is no one better than Lionel Messi.

The Argentinean maestro has a habit of making the obscene look mundane and has been doing so for season after season.

Records just seem to fall at his feet these days, and, just when you think he has broken them all, he'll wake up in the morning, and over a bowl of cereal, simply decide to break another one.

He is the all-time leading scorer in La Liga (421), scored the most goals ever in a calendar year (91) and has the most assists (164) in Spanish league history, to name but a few.

Now, he has added yet another remarkable record to his burgeoning quiver after becoming the first player to score in 15 consecutive Champions League seasons.

Messi's opener at Slavia Praha on Wednesday night saw him continue his unbelievable run in Europe's top club competition.

It all started way back in 2005 when the mercurial youngster slotted home in the group stages against Panathinaikos.

Fast forward a decade and a half and not much has changed - Messi is still scoring goals for fun, and you can be certain he will add to his record in years to come.

Now skipper at Barcelona, Messi will be desperate to lead his side back to the summit of the European game, after several massively disappointing years.

His side have been one of the favourites for the tournament over the last few seasons but have crashed out in dramatic fashion at the hands of Juventus, Roma, and Liverpool.

You can be certain he will be using the hurt of those painful nights to further fuel his desire to get his hands back on that famous trophy.

With Barca's knock-out stage fragilities well known to the rest of the continent, their skipper will have to be at his absolute best if they are to end their European hoodoo.
