Wayne Rooney is an English football icon.

Since making his professional debut as a 16-year-old for Everton back in 2002, he's gone on to win it all and break multiple individual records too.

The striker also made a name for himself by scoring some spectacular goals - that bicycle kick vs Manchester City and the effort from inside his own half vs West Ham spring to mind.

So his 34th birthday gives us the perfect excuse to celebrate all things 'Wazza'!

There's no doubt that the striker's glory years came at Manchester United

Rooney moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2004 and it didn't take him long to make an impression.

He scored a hat-trick and provided an assist on his debut against Fenerbahce in the Champions League, announcing himself as Europe's latest golden boy.

Although United finished without a trophy in Rooney's first season, the silverware would soon flow throughout the 13 years he spent in Manchester.

He won five Premier League titles, four Community Shields, three League Cups, an FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League during his time with United.

Rooney also left the club as their all-time top scorer, having netted 253 goals in 13 seasons.

During that time, he also established himself as England's greatest ever striker too.

Between 2003 and 2018, 'Wazza' won 120 caps for his nation and scored 53 times, smashing the previous record of 49, set by Bobby Charlton. Not bad at all.

Even after spending over a decade at United, Rooney still had time to return to his boyhood club Everton and spent the 2017-18 season at Goodison Park before moving to MLS.

On Saturday night, he played his final game for DC United as the team were knocked out of the playoffs by Toronto FC.

Incredibly, Rooney isn't done there. He'll join Championship side Derby County as a player-coach in January, where he will likely see out the final moments of his career.

But what a career it's been. Happy Birthday, Wayne!
