Carlos Vela's career has well and truly experienced an 'Indian summer'.The Mexican striker struggled during his early years at Arsenal and looked like he would never fulfil his enormous potential.Vela improved during his five-year stint with Real Sociedad but ever since he has moved to Los Angeles FC in his older years, his career has exploded into life. The 30-year-old arrived in California in the summer of 2017 and officially joined LAFC on 1 January, 2018, becoming the club's first overseas player. And what he has done since has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite being in competition with LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Atlanta's Josef Martinez, Vela has been utterly dominant.

Back in August, he broke Sebastian Giovinco's record for most goals and assists in a single MLS season and his numbers now are just scary.

After LAFC's 5-3 win over city rivals LA Galaxy this morning - where Vela scored two more - the Mexican now has 36 goals and 16 assists in just 32 games.

He has shattered Martinez's record for most goals in a single season (31) and he has the chance to add even more to his tally in the Western Conference Finals.

Giovinco's previous record for goals and assists in a single campaign stood at 38 and with Vela already on 52 combined, it's safe to say that the Mexican has made MLS his playground.

Ibrahimovic can talk all he wants about being the main man over in America, but that accolade belongs to Vela.

Once LAFC's season has finished, there will surely be a plethora of rumours linking Vela with a temporary switch to Europe during the MLS off-season.

A hefty chunk of the continent's elite clubs are in desperate need of a goal scorer, none more so than Manchester United.

Stranger things have happened and surely the temptation is there for Vela to further upstage Ibrahimovic back at one of his former clubs?
