From Emery doubters to Emery-outers, Arsenal's 3-2 win over Vitoria has done little to paper over the seismic cracks which are beginning to appear in their season. The natives were growing increasingly restless at the Emirates until Nicolas Pepe saved the hosts with two excellent free-kicks in the final 10 minutes. Within 25 minutes, with the Gunners trailing to a goal from former Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards, Mesut Ozil's name began to ring around the Emirates.Once again, there was no place in the match day squad for a player who hasn't featured since the League Cup victory against Nottingham Forest. The 31-year-old has played just 71 minutes of football in the Premier League in the 2-2 draw with Watford.

Even with Emery making 10 changes from the side that lost to Sheffield United on Monday, he did not see fit to include the former Germany international.

His new-look line-up did not pay off either, substitutes Matteo Guendouzi, Dani Ceballos and Pepe ultimately making the difference.

So what does Ozil have to do to get a game?

It can only be assumed the club plan to offload him in the January transfer window, so long as a buyer can be found. In the summer, they were even willing to pay some of his wages if it meant he could be shipped out on loan.

In the meantime, all he can do is sit on the sidelines, engage in awkward exchanges with Emery in training as he did earlier this week, and pick up his wages.

The Telegraph's Sam Dean points out that due to his incredible wages of over £15million a year, he has already earned £3.7m since the start of the season.

For every minute he's actually played - 142 in all competitions - he's earned £26,000. What a life.

Ozil's salary, of course, dates back to a simpler time, when both he and Alexis Sanchez were out of contract at the end of the season.

The Chilean stood firm on his resolve to quit north London and move to Manchester United.

With Arsenal reluctant to lose both their star men at once, Ozil was offered a lucrative new deal.

Emery, and whoever else is behind the decision to freeze the midfielder out, is being left to rue that decision every week.
